Josh Pate raves about his experience at Husky Stadium

College football fans who aren’t from the West Coast may not have heard about the allure of Husky Stadium because they haven’t gotten a chance to take a trip to Seattle for a game.

247Sports’ Josh Pate was among that group until he made the trip to Montlake for Washington’s legendary showdown with the Oregon Ducks in October 2023. That trip made the popular podcaster a believer in the atmosphere of the Greatest Setting in College Football, as he included it among his favorite stadiums on an episode of his show, Josh Pate’s College Football Show.

“Growing up in Georgia, I would hear Brock Huard talk about this place, and I would think, ‘Yeah, ok, he talks about this place because he has to,'” Pate said. “It was amazing, the scenery, the noise, the visual, it’s a sensory overload, it’s an amazing place.”

Of course, he picked one of the best games in the history of the stadium to attend as the Huskies beat their arch-rivals 36-33. The sellout crowd of over 70,000 people reached around 130 decibels as Camden Lewis’ kick that would’ve sent the game into overtime sailed to the right, and fans stormed the field as Washington’s march to the national championship continued.

“That’s real life, they are extremely passionate up there, and it doesn’t look like it’s a big deal but if you’re from the Big Ten or the SEC and you go to these 100,000-plus seat venues, you look at the full open end zone and you think, ‘How loud can it be?’ It was the loudest game we went to that year, and I went to all those places in the South that year. That Saturday against Oregon was like being on a runway at SeaTac.”
