Sanker, UVA football players showcase skills at UVA’s NFL Pro Day

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Charlottesville native Jonas Sanker was one of several UVA football players to showcase their skills in front of dozens of NFL scouts Tuesday at UVA’s annual Pro Day.

Sanker is projected to be a mid-round pick in April’s NFL draft.

“I feel like I did a good job,” Sanker said after the workout. “A different challenge today, not having a lot of DBs so being challenged rep after rep, showed how resilient I am and show the type of player I am. Being mentally tough, I’ve been through a lot of adversity, a lot of tough days, it’s just another day.”

Sanker had shined weeks earlier at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, running a 40 yard dash with a time of 4.48.

“I wanted to run a faster 40, I was a little disappointed in my 40 but overall at the end of the day a lot of hard work paid off and I was able to go out there and put on a good show,” says Sanker.

Scouts from 31 of the 32 NFL teams were in attendance.

UVA players hoping to make an impression.

“Nerves get you going a little bit but its good adrenalin,” says UVA defensive lineman Chico Bennett. “It was a great opportunity to compete with the guys and everyone have a good time overall. We came for one theme, one goal, it’s a childhood dream. We’re right there.”

“We only had two guys running routes and I ran a lot of routes,” says UVA tight end Tyler Neville. “We had a script before hand and then we went completely different. It’s a test to your mental resilience.”

As for where Jonas Sanker will be selected in April’s NFL draft. He says there’s no way to know.

“It’s hard, I feel like you hear a new thing everyday. I try not to focus on that too much. It’s out of my control. Control what I can control.” says Sanker.

The NFL draft is in Green Bay, Wisconsin this year and gets underway on Thursday, April 24th.
