4th Inning
Miami 4, FSU 2
Bottom: I would like to think that the Hurricanes are motivated to play right now. Derek Williams continues to play great stealing two bases and Bobby Marsh brings in an RBI-double to extend the lead for the Canes. Mark Light is getting louder. They feel an upset coming.
Top: Fantastic work for Hugus who seems to be comfortable on the play now three in. It is windy and chilly so he could finally be warm now.
3rd Inning
Miami 3, FSU 2
Bottom: Derek WIlliams brings in a massive home run. The Hurricanes are fighting back and that is all anyone can ask for to try and get this series win. Odgen. returns and gets another hit for the Canes. He brings in a run and the Hurricanes have the first lead of the series.
FSU 2, Miami 1
Top: To lead off the second Hugus gives up a home run. FSU instantly strikes back. Hugus is minimizing the offense of FSU at this moment. Great work but his pitch count is extremely high only two in.
2nd Inning
FSU 1. Miami 1
Bottom: Great work from the top of the of the lineup from the Canes. Jake Ogden continues to be great leading off. Fabio Peralta being inserted into the two slot again worked well to get Ogden to third. Cuvet smashes a ball for a Sac-Fly and getting an early run gives the Hurricanes an early chance.
FSU 1, Miami 0
Top: Hugus walks one after a questionable start to the game from the umpire. His box is sporatic right now but Hugus is still finding ways to get it in the zone. Hugus had 34 pitches in the first which is not ideal but he only allowed one.
1st Inning
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The Miami Hurricanes baseball team got absolutely annihilated in the series opener with their arch-rival Florida State Seminoles on Thursday night. It was a demoralizing loss that was mercifully stopped after seven innings with a score of 14 – 1.
The Canes hoped that breaking their four-game losing streak in their most recent game would give them some momentum heading into this series, but that was not the case in Game 1 at least. Miami now drops to 0 – 4 in the ACC and will look to get back on track Friday night in Game 2 of this rivalry series.
What: Florida State Seminoles @ University of Miami Hurricanes
When: Friday, March 21
Time: 8:00 PM EST
Where: Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field, Coral Gables, Florida
TV: ACC Network
Live Stream: ACCNX
Fabio Peralta, Miami Hurricanes – Peralta was the only one to get anything going in the series opener. In a game when the Canes only scored one run and had just two hits, he hit a solo home run accounting for half of their hits and both driving in and scoring Miami’s only run. The center fielder finished the game going 1-2 which in this game was by far the top performance in a terrible all-around showing.
Alex Lodise, Florida State Seminoles – Lodise had a monster game on Thursday night. He went 4-5 with two home runs, five RBIs, and three runs scored. The shortstop dismantled the Hurricanes’ pitching staff. Miami will have to find a way to slow him down over the rest of the series if they are going to come away with their first ACC victory of the season.
