Everything Texas A&M’s Mike Elko said after first three spring practices

Tyler has played a lot of football at another school. But our challenge to all of those guys is go earn reps. I think Dealyn, Jadon Scarlett, the three freshmen that are all here, I think you’ve got five guys that if you put them on a podium, certainly wouldn’t tell you their plan is to sit on the bench and take a back seat. So I think it’s good. I think it’s healthy competition. We talk a lot about it from this perspective, too. The spring is critical for us to get better at football, and that’s not just new guys or guys who haven’t played a lot. You get, and we talked about this last year, but you get so many more padded practices in the spring than you do in fall camp, which is crazy. This is really the time where fundamentally, physically, the mentality, the technique, all of that stuff gets developed now. Even to the kids who have played a lot of football or maybe projected to be the guys, I think it’s still really critical that they come out and have really sharp, really strong practices, too. Because I don’t think you can just assume it’s going to come naturally for him in the fall.”
