MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – Minot State football hasn’t played a game since November, but there’s no true offseason in college football. The recruiting never stops, even after National Signing Day.
In February, the Beavers signed 42 high school players, a list still growing into the spring. Of the 42 recruits, 10 are from North Dakota. In total, the class covers 14 states and three Canadian provinces.
“We start in our backyard. We start there. That’s the heart and soul of our program. Now, the arms and legs, and some other pieces are going to come from some other states. As a coaching staff, we have tentacles all over the country that we can reach out to, and coaches we trust out there that are helping us build this program. Our roster is unique. We’re uniquely built, and that’s intentionally designed,” said Head Coach Ian Shields.
The Beavers won their most games than ever as an NCAA program in 2024. Shields said the team is focus is on building on the recent progress and continuing the upward trajectory of the program.
“The challenge now is to take the next step. Let’s get beyond, ‘Okay, we had a five-win season. Okay, great, that’s the best ever here.’ That’s not what our ambition is. Our ambition is to compete for championships,” said Shields.
Minot State began spring practice on Feb. 16 and plays its spring game March 29, starting at 9 a.m. at the MSU Bubble.
