NFL scouts finally see ASU football’s Cam Skattebo run the 40-yard dash at private workout

Arizona State football running back star Cam Skattebo reportedly ran a 40-yard dash in the 4.53-4.57 range at his private workout March 27 in front of NFL scouts, per scouts in attendance.

The workout was at ASU football’s training facility, and teammates were also in attendance. Blake Niemann of FOX 10 posted a video of the 40-yard dash from Sun Devils running back Kyson Brown’s Instagram:

Brown averaged 4.8 yards per carry on 73 carries (for 351 rush yards) as the backup who complemented Skattebo’s 5.8 yards per carry on 293 totes (for 1,711 rush yards).

This comes after Skattebo did not run the 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL scouting combine. As a result, NFL Next Gen Stats estimated his Athleticism Score to 73, which is in the “good” range. His Production Score was 93, which is in the “elite” range. That Athleticism Score bumped him down to an 88 Total Score, which is back into the “good” range.

Skattebo is projected to be drafted sometime in Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft (rounds 2 and 3) or in Round 4 of Day 3. Much hinges on the evaluation of this 40-time, and how well scouts see it pairing with his 5-foot-9 1/2-inch, 219-pound frame.

Skattebo ran for 21 touchdowns last season, caught three and threw one. He had 45 catches for 605 receiving yards and 42 passing yards. He won Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Peach Bowl (College Football Playoff quarterfinals) against the Texas Longhorns and their third-ranked defense.

Skattebo played two seasons in Tempe, scoring at least 11 all-purpose touchdowns in each year. He had at least one rushing, receiving and passing touchdown in each year. Known for his violent nature and contact balance, Skattebo showed scouts one of the most important remaining data points needed before they make their decisions on him at the draft next month.
