CLEMSON — Clemson baseball dropped from No. 5 to No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll released on Monday.
The Tigers (26-5, 6-3 ACC) received 572 points and no first-place votes. They are the second-highest ranked ACC team, behind No. 4 Florida State.
Clemson, which was picked to finish fourth in the ACC baseball preseason poll, fell in the polls despite winning every conference series so far this season. It fell to No. 24 Coastal Carolina on Tuesday but rebounded to defeat Presbyterian and beat No. 22 Georgia Tech 2-1 in a three-game road weekend series.
Clemson will look to boost its ranking this week when it faces Georgia Southern on Tuesday (6:30 p.m. ET, ESPN+) in North Augusta. Then it will travel to the West Coast to face Cal in a three-game ACC weekend series.
Tennessee, last year’s national champion, is the No. 1 team in the coaches poll, earning 749 points and 29 first-place votes. No. 3 Georgia also received a first-place vote.
Four other ACC schools made the Top 25: North Carolina (No. 14), Louisville (18), Georgia Tech (22) and Wake Forest (23).
The USA TODAY Sports Board of Coaches poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of made up of 30 head coaches at Division I institutions.
