WREX — It was a big day for three Auburn High School Athletes achieving their dream of playing football at the college level, as all of them signed their letters of intent on Monday.
Tevin Tennial, Tazheer Henderson and Derrick Townsend signed their letters of intent to play college football next season.
Tennial, staying close to home heading to Rockford University while Henderson and Townsend are heading to Lisle to play at Benedictine together.
All three deciding to stay in state for their next chapter.
Despite going different ways, they know their destinations feel like home.
“Everything just clicked perfectly,” Tennial said about Rockford University.
“The Coach and I connected really well, it just felt like home.”
For Townsend, he knows having a guy like Tazheer Henderson alongside him for the next four years, means having someone who will push them to be their best.
“We are just going to push each other as hard as possible,” Townsend said.
“We both want to see each other at the highest level.”
Tazheer Henderson was also named team MVP for this past season, an added bonus and a testament to the work he has put in during his time as a Knight.
“I really just want my young guys to live up to the moment and go better next year,” he said.
Without the help of the Coaching staff at Auburn and his parents at home, Henderson says there were doubts about if he would even make it to the Collegiate level.
“To be honest, when I was younger, I didn’t think I would get this far,” he said.
“With my Coaches and my Parents pushing me to be the best I can to achieve my dreams, I’m just so happy.”
Giving his words of advice to those who face similar struggles.
“There’s going to be a lot of people who doubt you, but don’t give up,” he said.
“If you really want it, then you’re going to go chase that and achieve your dream, that’s what I did. Just keep going.”
