Washington Huskies quarterback Demond Williams Jr. looks noticeably bigger in spring camp

Ahead of his first full season as the Washington Huskies‘ starting quarterback, Demond Williams Jr. looks noticeably different. The rising star has put on 15 pounds and said that he weighed in at 197 pounds coming into spring ball, after arriving on campus at 182, which has been one of his biggest focuses as he prepares for life in the Big Ten.

“Getting bigger and having a lot more lean mass on me,” Williams said when asked where he’s seen the most growth in his game since the Sun Bowl. “It helps me really be able to put force in the ground when I run and force behind my throws.”

Williams has shown off improved velocity through the first two days of practice and has already completed a handful of tight window throws with great arm strength. After tallying 282 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground during his freshman season while taking the second-most carries on the team, the extra weight should help him withstand some of the hits he’ll take over the course of an entire season as the starter.

He added that he hopes to get up to 205 pounds by the time the season rolls around, and credited two of his favorite lunch choices with his weight gain, lemon pepper wings and Shake Shack.

“Double cheeseburger, fries, vanilla milkshake, and a Sunset Lemonade,” he said of his preferred order at the popular fast food chain, which recently opened a location in the U-Village.

While eating wings or Shake Shack every day may sound enjoyable to the average person, especially when factoring in all the offseason conditioning work that a college football player has to do to stay in shape, the intake to gain 15 pounds of lean muscle in three months is significant and requires constant dedication in the offseason.

“Being able to keep that same work ethic when I’m at home eating food,” Williams said of his offseason regimen. “I’ve been making sure that I stay upbeat on my food intake.”
