Second of three parts
Nebraska made news – and started a trend, — when Coach Matt Rhule announced that the Cornhuskers would not have a spring football game this year. Nebraska football fans rank among the most passionate, and they might have half the stadium full to watch the snappers and holders practice for half an hour.
The early explanation was a fear of opponents scouting.
For years it has been obligatory to preview spring football games as “vanilla,” that the coaches wouldn’t show any of their real schemes, sometimes not even top players, because of paranoia – opponents scouting.
With Jim Harbaugh gone, I think not even Michigan would bother to scout the spring game of an upcoming opponent.
