Jalen Milroe shares his top 4 NFL quarterbacks that he’s been analyzing
Former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe shares what NFL quarterbacks he’s been keeping his eyes on as he prepares for the NFL draft.
Sports Seriously
One year ago, the Texas Longhorns had 11 players selected in the 2024 NFL draft, second only to the national champion Michigan Wolverines with 13. Those 11 players included two in the first round: defensive tackle Byron Murphy who went at No. 16 overall to the Seattle Seahawks and wide receiver Xavier Worthy who went No. 28 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Longhorns again reached the College Football Playoff in 2024 and should see plenty of players head to the NFL again this year. They will very likely have more players go in the first round, though, as three former Longhorns are projected by most experts to hear their names called in Round 1.
Cornerback Jahdae Barron’s performance at the NFL combine has him in contention for a top-20 pick. Wide receiver Matthew Golden’s rise over the second half of the college football season and combine performance has him as a popular first-round pick as well.
Offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. has the tape, size and athleticism to be one of the first few offensive linemen off the board come April 24. In a shallow offensive tackle class, he could go as early as the top 10 selections.
Here’s where the top Texas Longhorns prospects are projected to go by experts at 33rd Team, The Athletic, Pro Football Focus, CBS Sports and The Huddle:
Texas Longhorns NFL mock draft roundup
OL Kelvin Banks Jr.
Banks has an ideal frame for either tackle or guard at 6-foot-5, 315 pounds and 33 ½-inch long arms. He faced NFL-level competition for years with the Longhorns and has the foot speed, athleticism and hand usage to perform well in pass protection. He struggled at times against power rushers and could use some development with his anchor but he projects well for the NFL at either position.
CB Jahdae Barron
Barron has a smaller frame than many other cornerbacks in the class at 5-foot-11, 194 pounds and sub-30 inch arms. But he makes up for that with his speed, positional versatility, football IQ and ball skills. Barron tallied five interceptions and 11 passes defensed in 2024 alone.
- 33rd Team: No. 30 overall to the Buffalo Bills
- The Athletic: No. 23 overall to the Green Bay Packers
- Pro Football Focus: No. 11 overall to the San Francisco 49ers
- CBS Sports: No. 11 overall to the San Francisco 49ers
- The Huddle: No. 11 overall to the San Francisco 49ers
WR Matthew Golden
Golden is position-versatile thanks to his mix of speed, verticality, route running and ball tracking abilities. He can create separation on routes on the outside or in the slot. He needs to clean up his drops and run blocking but offers an ideal skill set for a No. 2 wide receiver in the NFL.
