CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Tennessee Titans will not be conducting a private workout with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
The team met with Sanders’ camp after Friday’s pro day in Boulder, Colo. and agreed to pass on working him out anymore, according to Titans writer Jim Wyatt, who added Tennessee is satisfied with game film, scouting and the pro day. The Titans initially planned to conduct their private workout Wednesday with Sanders and teammate Travis Hunter, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapport.
It is not clear, as of Monday morning, whether Hunter will still have a private workout.
The decision on Sanders suggests Tennessee will not consider him any further for the No. 1 pick, considering the Titans held a private workout with Miami quarterback Cam Ward and could have been otherwise equally satisfied with their evaluation. That workout happened in late March. It ”went great,” according to a report from NFL Insider Paul Kuharsky.
The Titans’ latest move could increase the chances of the Browns considering Sanders at No. 2, as cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot reported that Sanders’ offensive coordinator and former Cleveland coach Pat Shurmur made a play for it.
“This is what I’ve told all 32 teams, and I really believe, if you need a quarterback, take Shedeur,” Shurmur told cleveland.com during Friday’s showcase in Colorado. “If you don’t need a quarterback, take Travis. I’ve said you can’t go wrong, and I think that pretty much says it all.”
Titans coach Brian Callahan said last week during the NFL’s league meetings they were “probably two weeks away” from finalizing their decision on what to do with the top pick, according to Nick Suss of the Nashville Tennessean.
Here is what else is happening with the Titans, Giants and the latest on how it can impact the top of this month’s NFL Draft with the Browns, who own the No. 2 pick:
Giants meeting with Abdul Carter
If the Titans take Ward and the Browns select Sanders or Hunter at No. 2, that lead Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter — considered by many to be the top prospect in this draft with Hunter — to fall to the New York Giants with the third pick.
New York is doing its due diligence for that scenario, as coach Brian Daboll reportedly had breakfast on Sunday with Carter, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Giants also are expected to host Carter on Thursday.
Raiders hosting Ewers, Jeanty
The Las Vegas Raiders, who own the No. 6 pick, will host Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty and Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, among more prospects, according to Ian Rapport. They will be flown in on Tuesday. The Raiders also have the No. 37 overall pick in the second round. The Browns are picking 33rd in the second round.
The Raiders are considered a roadblock for teams like the Browns or Giants who could consider taking Carter or Hunter with their first pick and potentially trade back up to select Sanders later in the first round.
