Clemson football earns ‘blue blood’ status in College Football News’ best football schools

Clemson just reached another milestone, and it’s sparking a bigger question: Has Clemson earned the right to be called a blue blood in college football?

According to a new list from College Football News, the answer is yes. The Tigers were recently added to their exclusive group of blue blood programs, a club that includes long-established powers like Michigan, Alabama, and Ohio State.

What earned Clemson that distinction wasn’t just national championships or high-end recruiting—it was long-term, consistent winning. The Tigers just wrapped up their 20th season with double-digit wins, which CFN uses as a key benchmark for determining true staying power in the sport.

The site put together its list using a few clear criteria. Most importantly, they looked at how often teams have hit the 10-win mark, a stat they view as the best measure of relevance and consistency over time. All data was pulled from current FBS programs only, and national titles—while considered—were given less weight due to the inconsistent ways champions were named in decades past.

By those standards, Clemson stands on solid ground. Dabo Swinney’s program has produced some of the best teams of the last 15 years, including multiple Playoff appearances and two national titles. That recent dominance helped push Clemson ahead of other big-name schools still trying to catch up, like Florida, Miami (both with 16 10-win seasons), and even LSU, which still sits two short of 20.

Other schools just outside the club include Boise State and BYU, both closing in on the milestone but still looking to match Clemson’s level of success at the highest level.

Clemson might just be there.
