Brock Huard is stepping aside from FOX CFB coverage to coach

Brock Huard is moving onto another chapter in his career.

The longtime football analyst is stepping aside from calling college games in the FOX Sports announce booth and instead moving to the sidelines as a coach, while continuing his day job as co-host of Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk.

Rather than calling college games, Huard will be the tight ends coach at Valor Christian High School in Colorado, where his son Titus will be a sophomore quarterback next fall. He joins the staff of head coach Mike Sanford, who has been an offensive coordinator in the college ranks for Notre Dame, Boise State, Utah State, Minnesota and Colorado, as well as head coach at Western Kentucky.

Huard said 2024 was the final year of his FOX contract, and he knew a fork in the road was approaching.

“This decision has been looming as my son Titus has been growing up,” Huard said. “My girls played winter and spring sports and there was never really a conflict with my fall travels as I was on the road for 16 straight weekends during the college football season. FOX and my teammates knew this was more than likely my last season on the college football trail as Titus entered high school. The Lord has always opened and closed doors over my adult life with work and this was really no different.”

The son of former Puyallup High School football coach Mike Huard, the move to spending more time coaching is a long time coming, but one he and his wife Molly agreed would come later in their children’s lives.

“Coaching is obviously in my blood and I’ve loved coaching Titus’ youth football and baseball teams, as well as acting as a quasi strength coach opening our gym to his teammates,” Brock Huard said. “Molly and I were on the same page early in our marriage that when my playing days were done, coaching as a vocation while raising young kids was not in our plans. But now that we are at this stage of life and the door has opened, let’s go for it.”

A Seattle-area native and Puyallup High School product, Huard starred in college for the UW Huskies and was a third-round NFL Draft pick by the hometown Seattle Seahawks in 1999. He appeared in eight career NFL games between the Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts from 2000 through 2003.

The 48-year-old Huard began his football announcing career with ESPN in 2008 and moved to FOX in 2019. In addition to calling college games, he has been on the call for NFL and UFL games on FOX. He also joined the Madden video game series as an in-game broadcaster beginning with Madden 25, which was released last summer.

On the radio, Huard has been with Seattle Sports since the station switched to an all-sports format in 2009 as 710 ESPN Seattle. Seattle Sports can be heard on 710 AM in Washington state, as well as streaming on the Seattle Sports app and at SeattleSports.com. Huard’s show, Brock and Salk, airs from 6-10 a.m. weekdays.

Huard is leaving the door open to calling more football in the future, but he also suspects his move to coaching will provide a fresh outlook during his daily conversations with co-host Mike Salk.

“I really have open hands with what this may or may not lead to. I will miss my broadcast teammates immensely and will hope to continue with my UFL and possible NFL opportunities,” he said. “I do have a sense there will be a story or 100 on the radio show of all the things I’m experiencing and learning through coaching.

“This will be an absolute blast to share with Salk, Maura Dooley and Lyle Goldstein on Brock and Salk. Mike and I have always lived our lives with transparency on the air together and this will only enhance that. I loved the football camp we put on through the station for over a decade and this will in many ways be an extension of that for me in the fall. The biggest challenge may be to my vocal cords and my sleep, but I can’t wait to share the stories with our amazing audience and listeners. Stay tuned.”
