Athlon Sports ranks Jonah Coleman among college football’s top 10 running backs

The Washington Huskies have one of the nation’s best running backs in Jonah Coleman, and Athlon Sports’ Steven Lassan agrees. The writer placed Coleman as the nation’s No. 8 returning ball carrier ahead of the 2025 season, slightly lower than other preseason lists.

That ranking was good for the No. 4 running back in the Big Ten, behind Penn State’s dynamic duo of Nicholas Singleton (No. 2) and Kaytron Allen (No. 3), and Oregon’s Makhi Hughes (No. 5).

Coming off a career-high 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns, including 833 yards after contact according to Pro Football Focus, Coleman should be expected to improve on his 5.5 yards per carry during his senior year behind an improved offensive line while seeing a decrease in his workload thanks to Washington’s rotation of ball carriers, which includes sophomore Adam Mohammed, redshirt freshman Jordan Washington, and quarterback Demond Williams Jr.

During his final spring workouts, the senior has barely seen the field, a reflection of his ranking and the acumen he’s accrued over three seasons at the college level as Jedd Fisch’s coaching staff attempts to keep him fresh for the fall.

“I’m a competitor, and I love practicing, I love football, so being held back makes me [antsy], but I kind of have to understand that I’ve earned it,” Coleman said.
