One of the program’s best wins of all time, K-State’s win over Nebraska, is No. 1 all-time in attendance. With 53,811 on hand, this game is remembered fondly, but memories from most of the night’s first 58 minutes have faded. In many ways, this game defines the journey of Coach Bill Snyder’s program construction at Kansas State. The contest wasn’t always pleasing to watch, but the game’s end and celebration are etched into almost every fan’s memory.

The game itself was a slog, highlighted by dramatic plays that jarred the game’s ebb and flow throughout. For K-State, the story was a realization that Quincy Morgan was one of college football’s best receivers, quarterback Jonathan Beasley was an absolute warrior and the Wildcat defense was growing into a destructive force.

There are a few plays from the Snyder Era that shall live long after these past 25 years. One of them will forever be the game winner, a shallow cross from Beasley to Morgan, who sliced in front of the Cornhuskers’ zone coverage, catching the ball through a falling snow that arrived just before game’s end. Morgan ducked into the corner of the end zone, giving the Cats the lead.

Those six points earned the Wildcats a 29-28 victory over the mighty Huskers and unleashed a celebration in the falling snow that offered a storybook aura. From the students attacking the slippery goalposts, to Willie Wildcat leading the K-S-U-Wildcat cheer from atop KSU Stadium’s aging pressbox, only partially visible through the falling snow, to defensive back Derrick Yates sliding on his knees in the snow in celebration, moments from this game including its record crowd, will live forever in K-Staters’ minds through a few iconic images captured on that day.
