The 2025 college football transfer portal‘s spring window opens Wednesday and runs through next Friday, April 25. It’s a post-spring moment of free agency, a time when any player unhappy with his depth chart placement or contract can transfer. It’s also a time when a program, attempting to fill a big need, can lure a player into the portal as well.
But talking to sources around the country in the player personnel and agent spaces, it’s shaping up to be a slow spring cycle, especially compared to the winter.
“People are just trading backups,” one SEC personnel staffer told 247Sports.
Obviously, there’s a Nico Iamaleava-sized caveat to that assertion, and it really only takes one of two star players to change the tenor of the window. But mostly, outside of a few true difference makers, the spring window is expected to be a lot of teams adding depth.
