Dave Roberts’ Message To Dodgers Fans: ‘Too Early To Panic’

The Los Angeles Dodgers won their first eight games to begin the regular season, which represented the longest undefeated streak by a defending World Series champion in MLB history.

However, the Dodgers have since gone on to lose six of their last 10 games. They went just 2-4 on their first domestic road trip of the regular season before dropping two of three games to the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium.

“I don’t want to call anyone crazy, you can. I do think it’s too early to panic,” manager Dave Roberts said of the reaction among several Dodgers fans.

“We still got a good ballclub. We’re going to be just fine. I still expect to win the division. I still expect to win the World Series. So I appreciate the passion, the concern from our fans, but we’re going to be fine, and we’re working hard every day.”

The Dodgers are used to having enormous expectations, but those were heightened this year after the team significantly improved their roster during the offseason.

“I do think that we feel certain expectations. Perfection is certainly hard, we’ve already passed that, right? Losing some baseball games,” Roberts said.

“I don’t know. I don’t think we pay too much of mind to that. We still got a good ballclub, nothing has changed on that front.”

The Dodgers’ recent losing skid can be attributed in some part to several injuries, but the team still feels plenty confident and Roberts is hardly pressing the panic button this early in the season.

“We’re still confident,” Roberts began. “I love the way we go about business every day. There’s no need for a team meeting. Yeah, we still got a good ballclub. I pick my spots, and I’m not a big team meeting guy.

“I’ll do it if we need it, and right now, I don’t feel we need a team meeting.”

Dave Roberts appreciates Dodgers fans

Roberts noted that he is likely the only manager who has to address such concerns so early in the season.

“No. I’m the only one. I’m one of one right now,” Roberts said. “But that’s part of it, we have a good team. We have a good team, we have a great fan base who care. They’re knowledgeable, and they want to win, just like we do.”

Even with their recent skid, the Dodgers are one of just six teams that have won at least 10 wins this season.
