Welcome to the Morning Commute
Today we’re talking about Mizzou in the NFL Draft.
The NFL Draft officially starts next Thursday in Green Bay, and the Mizzou Football program has a legitimate shot of representing two first round picks. Those two players of course are Armand Membou and Luther Burden III.
Earlier this week, the NFL announced 17 on-site prospects that will attend the NFL Draft — but Membou and Burden weren’t included.
Don’t read too much into that, however. ESPN’s Mel Kiper still projects Armand Membou as a Top 10 pick. His latest projection has Membou to go 7th overall to the New York Jets.
There’s been some recent buzz on Membou that the Raiders are certainly interested at taking him 6th overall.
What about Burden? There’s speculation and rumors that his draft stock his falling due to for whatever reasons, but teams simply can’t overthink the talent he displays.
Despite Burden dropping in latest mock drafts, there’s still a relatively good chance that Mizzou can say that they have two first round NFL Draft picks next Thursday night. That hasn’t happened since 2011 with Aldon Smith and Blaine Gabbert, per Pro Football Reference.
Head Coach Eli Drinkwitz has plenty to sell with the status of this program right now, and multiple first round NFL Draft picks can be one heck of a recruiting pitch.
“In case you hadn’t followed, star Volunteer QB Nico Iamaleava decided recently to overplay what leverage he felt he had, and he essentially held out of Tennessee’s spring game to renegotiate a bigger NIL payday.”
College sports these days in a nutshell.
“All in all, short of perhaps the interior defensive line, there is no one area that qualifies as a “must address” for the coaches this spring (knocks on wood that no more Tigers jump into the portal.) That should hopefully free them up to bring in best available players on the board while hopefully also building depth in areas of potential concern.”
Nathan looks for transfer portal options for Mizzou as the spring window opens.
“Both Oklahoma and Missouri are coming off of midweek wins on Tuesday night as the Sooners topped Bedlam rival Oklahoma State 11-1 in 8 innings in Stillwater. Mizzou, meanwhile, edged out Missouri State 10-9.”

“Who are they targeting? So little is known publicly, and truthfully, even the paid sites are quiet, so… ¯_(ツ)_/¯”
