Bill Belichick flips top recruit from Deion Sanders in early college football power move

Bill Belichick isn’t wasting time making his presence felt in college football. The legendary former Patriots coach, now at the helm of the University ofNorth Carolina football program, just pulled off his biggest recruiting coup yet: flipping highly-touted wide receiver Adrian Wilson from Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes.

Wilson, ranked as one of the top 50 receivers in the 2025 class by 247Sports, has had a whirlwind of commitments, but his latest decision sends a strong message. With a résumé that includes 14 touchdowns during his junior season at Weiss High School in Texas, Wilson is a serious weapon. And now, he’s headed to Chapel Hill.

Wilson’s wild recruiting journey

The talented wideout’s path to UNC has been anything but typical. Since June 2023, Wilson has committed to five different programs. His first pledge was to TCU, followed by a quick switch to Oregon. From there, he committed to Arizona State, and in December, he signed with Colorado, seemingly ready to join Coach Prime’s high-profile project.

But this week, Wilson entered the transfer portal and made another surprise move this time aligning himself with Belichick, an eight-time Super Bowl winner starting a new chapter in the NCAA. It’s a massive pickup for UNC and a stinging loss for Sanders, whose recruiting momentum has been a key part of his buzz at Colorado.

Belichick building something big

Belichick’s arrival at UNC raised eyebrows, but he’s already proving he can adapt to the college landscape. Along with Wilson, he’s secured linebacker Mike Gbayor, who transferred from Missouri after recording 49 tackles with Nebraska last season. And the Tar Heels aren’t done yet.

The coach is reportedly eyeing quarterback Gio Lopez from South Alabama in the transfer portal, with more additions expected before fall. While names like Nico Iamaleava have surfaced, he’s not believed to be a fit for the Tar Heels.

Still, with recruits like Wilson already joining the fold, Belichick is signaling that UNC isn’t just rebuilding it’s reloading. And if this is any indication of what’s to come, college football fans should buckle up.
