Is NIL ruining college football?

The latest NIL saga has left the Tennessee Volunteers without a starting quarterback and Nico Iamaleava without a home (for now). Whether you side with Josh Huepel’s decision to move on from the former 5-star quarterback or with Iamaleava’s to ask for more money, it’s certain how college football fans feel about NIL.

In this week’s SB Nation Reacts survey, over half of the voters believe NIL is “ruining the sport,” with only 7% saying “it’s a great thing for the players.”

Iamaleava is the first major player to “hold out,” and he certainly won’t be the last under this broken system.

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian was not surprised to see a situation like Iamaleava’s play out.

“This was going to come to a head at some point. It was just a matter of which school it was going to happen with first,” Sarkisian said at a media availability this week.
