Success strikes twice: Twin brothers catch attention of top college football programs

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A local family that moved away to the continental U.S. is catching the attention of some of college football’s top programs.

Check out a slate of Friday night football in Utah and you’ll see Jaron and Kennan Pula orchestrate a show.

The identical twin receivers have become some of the top prospects in the nation.

“It’s definitely different on the field because we have chemistry already,” Jaron said. “Ever since we were little, we’ve always had that connection.”

The two brothers are completely in sync from their time growing up on the Big Island before eventually moving to Utah.

They’ve literally been immersed in a team environment as two of 11 siblings.

Parents Kierstin and Mana Pula are both Hawaii natives.

“Me and my wife have to kind of do the divide-and-conquer thing,” Mana said. “One’s doing this. I’m here, she’s there, kids are here, then we have older sets of kids to help babysit the young kids. It’s a great organization on how we can work together.”

Even coming from a large family, the Pula brothers have found a way to stand out.

They’re not even seniors yet, but have verbally committed to UCLA and both garnered nearly 30 offers from blue chip programs, including, Alabama, Tennessee, Oregon, and Washington.

“They don’t have to offer both of them,” Kierstin said. “Colleges also have a choice to just take one boy or the other boy. They could like the way Kennan plays better than Jaron, but they’ve equally offered the boys together.”

The boys are proud to represent their Native Hawaiian and Samoan heritage on the field and hope to one day make it to the NFL.

They’ll soon have an opportunity to return to the islands as they were invited to next year’s Polynesian Bowl.

“Knowing that my boys being Polynesian, going back home and spreading our aloha back and giving back to families back home who raised means everything,” Mana said.
