Micah Parsons thinks Cowboys should draft defensive help in 2025
The Cowboys have the 12th pick in the NFL draft. Micah Parsons weighs in on where the team could use young talent next season.
Every year, the next crop of NFL stars finds out where they’ll take the next step during the NFL draft. The three-day event sees hundreds of prospects earn a potential spot at the professional level.
Draft status isn’t always a direct indication of pro success; Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts was a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft to the Philadelphia Eagles. The quarterback on the other side of Super Bowl 59, two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes, wasn’t even the first quarterback selected in the 2017 NFL draft.
Rookies from multiple rounds played a huge role in their team’s success this last season. Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 overall pick to Washington, powered the Commanders‘ first trip to the NFC championship game in 33 years. Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse went No. 19 overall to the Los Angeles Rams and powered the Rams’ defense in its first division title since 2021.
But there were early stars from later rounds as well. Fourth-round running back Bucky Irving finished 10th league-wide in rushing yards. Fifth-round cornerback Tarheeb Still was the top cornerback for the Chargers‘ playoff defense.
Teams can find contributors at any point in the draft. Here’s how many rounds there are this year and how many picks there are in each round.
