IOWA CITY — Boston College transfer long snapper Bryant Worrell has committed to Iowa football, it was announced via social media April 20.

Worrell, listed at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, played in 13 games at long snapper in his lone season with the Eagles.

Worrell comes to Iowa with one season of college eligibility remaining.

A product of Dublin, Virginia, Worrell was a five-star long snapper in the 2020 class, according to Kohl’s. He was also the 11th-ranked long snapper in the class.

Worrell began his college career at the FCS level as a part of the Old Dominion program but did not appear in game-action before transferring to Division II Emory & Henry. Worrell appeared in 14 games combined across two seasons at Emory & Henry. He then transferred to Boston College for the 2024 season. Worrell recorded three total tackles and recovered one fumble as the Eagles went 7-6 overall.

Iowa suffered the departure of long snapper Luke Elkin after last season. Elkin was a stalwart on Hawkeye special teams, appearing in 53 combined across the last four seasons. Elkin was named a First-team AFCA All-American last season and is now pursuing a professional career.

The Hawkeyes return Ike Speltz at long snapper but Worrell should provide much more experience and depth to the position. Speltz, a product of Van Meter, Iowa, is just entering his redshirt freshman season and hasn’t appeared in game-action yet for the Hawkeyes.

Iowa is pretty well established elsewhere on special teams entering the 2025 season. Kicker Drew Stevens, who nailed 20 of 23 field goal attempts last season, is back for the Hawkeyes. So is special teams star Kaden Wetjen, who is the reigning Jet Award winner, an honor given to college football’s top return specialist. Punter Rhys Dakin is preparing for his second season in the Iowa program after showing flashes of promise as a freshman.

Worrell is Iowa’s second known addition in the spring transfer portal window. The Hawkeyes recently landed Ferris State offensive line transfer Bryce George, who won three national titles at the Division II level.

Worrell now joins George in Iowa’s 2025 spring transfer portal class.
