AMHERST, Wis. (WSAW) – It’s officially draft week. We’re days away from the festivities in Green Bay starting on Thursday, April 24th. While there’ll be big crowds and a lot of fun in Titletown, not everyone had that same experience.
Tyler Biadasz, the current starting center of the Washington Commanders, was a fourth-round selection by the Cowboys in 2020. The Amherst native was drafted in the midst of the craze and unknown provided by the COVID-19 pandemic.
While the world was shut down, that didn’t stop the former Wisconsin Badger from celebrating his big moment where the journey all began.
“We had a cool setup, just at our won place,” says Biadasz. “Invite a few friends, just close family. To be able to have those three days isolated everything, it was very different. It was awesome to just be here. Obviously an amazing journey to get to that point, too. And day three, last pick of the fourth round.”
Biadasz has since played five seasons and is a multi-year starter. Not bad for someone NFL.com graded as an average backup or special teamer.
After agreeing to a three-year deal with the Commanders in March 2024, Biadasz’s inaugural year in D.C. was one to remember. Anchoring Washington’s offense line, Biadasz became part of a unit that provided the franchise’s first playoff wins in 19 years.
Riding all the way to the NFC Championship with Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, the former Amherst Falcon has spent his off-season time accordingly.
“For me, I always like going home right away for a week back here in Wisconsin, seeing the fam,” says Biadasz. “And then take a couple of vacations. That was a long season. When you’re going all the way that deep into the playoffs you have, those are long weeks.”
Biadasz and the Commanders will kick off their OTA’s on Wednesday, May 14th.
