The Georgia Bulldogs have made a major splash in the spring transfer portal. Georgia has signed a trio of talented, experienced transfers in Miami Hurricanes defensive lineman Josh Horton, Illinois Fighting Illini running back Josh Horton and Army Black Knights pass rusher Elo Modozie.
The trio addresses three separate areas of need for the Bulldogs that UGA and head coach Kirby Smart did not add during the winter transfer portal window. Georgia desperately needed some pass rush help. The Bulldogs lost over 75% of their sack production from last season and returns just eight combined sacks from last season.
Army outside linebacker Elo Modozie
Army transfer Elo Modozie is one of the top available players in the transfer portal. Modozie posted 34 tackles and 6.5 sacks last year for an Army team that went 12-2. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound linebacker is from Saint Augustine, Florida, and has played in 25 career games.
Modozie is a former track athlete with excellent athleticism. He is projected to be one of Georgia’s top outside linebackers this fall. Modozie has two seasons of eligibility left
Miami defensive lineman Josh Horton
Miami transfer Josh Horton has no career sacks, but he has eight games of college football experience and good size. He posted four tackles in five games last season and was limited by injuries.
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive lineman played high school football at Langston Hughes High School in Georgia and won a 7A state championship. He recorded 123 tackles and four sacks as a senior and was ranked as a four-star recruit coming out of high school. Horton has three seasons of eligibility left.
Illinois running back Josh McCray
Illinois transfer Josh McCray brings size and power to the Georgia running back room. McCray, who has one season of eligibility left, was one of the top running backs available in the transfer portal.
As a junior, McCray posted 117 carries for 609 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns (tied for No. 9 in the Big Ten) in 2024. He also added 13 receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown. He had a career-best outing in Illinois’ Cheez-It Bowl win over South Carolina when he ran for 114 yards on 13 carries and scored a pair of rushing touchdowns.
The 6-foot-1, 235-pound running back projects to be UGA’s No. 2 running back behind Nate Frazier. McCray has some injury history (missed numerous games in 2022 and 2023) and will help replace Branson Robinson, who is expected to leave via the transfer portal.
