NFL Draft history is often used as a benchmark of college football success, mentioned alongside championships and win totals when measuring program excellence. Talent typically fuels titles, which is why many of the traditional college football powers sit near the top of the list for most all-time NFL Draft picks — and first-rounders, too.
Since the inaugural NFL Draft in 1936, more than 26,000 players have been selected from nearly 800 different programs — ranging from power conference giants to small schools at the FCS and lower levels. Eighty-one college football programs have produced at least 100 draft picks, but only six — Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and USC — surpassed 400 all-time selections.
That leaderboard is expected to shift once again this week as the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off in Green Bay. With many top-ranked prospects coming from schools near that 400-pick threshold, movement in the top five is possible. The first round begins Thursday.
