Pete Alonso is tearing the cover off the baseball this season and and I’ll explain in my MLB player props why he could go deep for the seventh time this season as the New York Mets face the Philadelphia Phillies tonight

I’ll also include Yordan Alvarez and Tommy Edman in my favorite home run picks on Tuesday, April 22.

Best MLB home run props today

HR picks for April 22

Pete Alonso (+450 at bet365)

While Juan Soto was the marquee signing for the New York Mets this past offseason, bringing Pete Alonso back is proving to have been a huge move as well. He’s certainly doing his part early on, batting .341 with six home runs and 23 RBI.

The Mets face the Philadelphia Phillies and left-hander Christopher Sanchez tonight. Alonso has had some success against Sanchez, smacking one homer in 20 at-bats. Alonso is also slashing .375 versus southpaws this season.

The slugger has one bomb in his last three games, and he went deep three times in 13 games against division-rival Philadelphia last season. Two of Alonso’s long balls have come at home, too.

Yordan Alvarez (+310 at FanDuel)

It’s no secret that Yordan Alvarez is one of the best power hitters in the sport. While he’s only smacked two home runs so far, there’s reason to believe he could leave the ballpark tonight. The Houston Astros are up against the Toronto Blue Jays and veteran right-hander Chris Bassitt.

Bassitt has a 0.77 ERA through four starts, and he continues to dominate every opponent. However, his pitches look like a beach ball to Alvarez. In 19 at-bats against Bassitt, the Cuban is hitting .421 with five homers and 11 RBI. Almost every single hit versus the righty has been a homer.

Even though Bassitt isn’t prone to the long ball right now, it’s hard to ignore Alvarez’s success against him. This feels like the perfect opportunity for Alvarez to break out of his slump and go deep.

Tommy Edman (+425 at BetMGM)

Believe it or not, it’s not Shohei Ohtani who leads the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers in homers — it’s Tommy Edman. The veteran has seven long balls already, which is tied for fourth in the majors. Edman has just one HR in his last eight games, but hear me out.

Chicago Cubs starter Shota Imanaga is having tons of success so far in 2025. That being said, Edman has an impressive track record against the Japanese ace in an admittedly small sample, going 2-for-5. Guess what? Both hits left the yard.

Three of Edman’s seven bombs have come against lefties, as well. Considering his power numbers this year and the success versus Imanaga, this pick at +425 odds is undoubtedly worth a look.

  1. Aaron Judge, Yankees (+255)
  2. Fernando Tatis Jr., Padres (+320)
  3. Juan Soto, Mets (+550)
