UNC basketball targeting a top shooting guard in transfer portal

Can UNC land a commitment from this star shooting guard?

After striking out on some of the top available talent in the 2024 offseason, the North Carolina Tar Heels are acing the 2025 college basketball transfer portal.

UNC already has commitments from former Arizona center Henri Veesaar, Alabama power forward and Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson, West Virginia shooting guard Jonathan Powell and Colorado State combo guard Kyan Evans.

Veesaar will undoubtedly start at center, while Stevenson, who can also play small forward, will compete with Caleb Wilson for minutes at power forward. Evans is viewed as North Carolina’s starting point guard, while Powell can easily crack into the starting lineup.

Needing to still address holes in their backcourt, the Tar Heels are now going after one of the portal’s top available players.

247Sports’ Travis Branham reported that UNC is in contact with California star shooting guard Andrej Stojakovic, who led the Golden Bears with 17.9 points per game last season.

Stojakovic, only a sophomore, is the son of NBA legend Peja Stojakovic. The younger Stojakovic played his freshman year at Stanford, then made the quick trip up north to Berkeley.

While Seth Trimble will start at shooting guard for North Carolina, a player of Andrej’s caliber will also find his way into the starting lineup. Hubert Davis could play Andrej at small forward with Drake Powell, point guard with Evans or at shooting guard with Trimble.

More importantly for the Tar Heels, Stojakovic is a career 42 percent shooter from 3-point land. The UNC defense got the best of Stojakovic on January 15, though, limiting him to six points on 3-of-13 shooting in a 79-53 UNC victory.
