Friends, family hold balloon release for Wichita native, college football player who died over Easter weekend

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Friends and family gathered in Wichita Tuesday night for a balloon release in remembrance of 21-year-old Todric McGee, a Missouri State University football player from Wichita who died over the weekend. Police reported that McGee was injured on Friday with an accidental gunshot wound. He died early Saturday morning, the Missouri State University Bears football team confirmed.

McGee, a Wichita Northwest High School graduate, was entering his fifth season with the Missouri State football program. Tuesday’s gathering to honor his life happened at Wichita Northwest.

“I know it isn’t going to bring him back, but if he could see this, he would be so happy. I know he would be so happy that everybody is here for him, knowing that we were always rooting for him his whole life, especially his mom. That’s who we are rooting for now. We have to make sure she is doing good,” said McGee’s friend and former teammate, Zaire Adkins.
