South Carolina has two of the top players in all of college football. While most would expect quarterback LaNorris Sellers and defensive end Dylan Stewart to be valued highly when it comes to being among the best, maybe not many would expect them to be this high.
In a list put together by CBS Sports’ Blake Brockermeyer, a former offensive tackle with nine years of NFL playing experience, Sellers was ranked as the No. 3 player in all of college football while Stewart was ranked sixth-best.
Here’s what Brockermeyer wrote about Sellers: A dark horse Heisman pick after a strong first year as a starter. Still developing as a passer, but has the athleticism that puts him on the short list of best dual-threat QBs of the last decade. Threw for 2,274 yards and 17 TDs (7 INTs), with 655 rushing yards and 7 TDs. Big-time upside heading into 2025.
And about Stewart: Prototype NFL edge rusher with elite twitch and versatility. Recorded 34 hurries, 6.5 sacks, and 9.5 TFLs as a freshman. At 6-6, draws comparisons to Clowney. Top-5 pick potential in 2027, but we’ve got two years of him first.
The list includes 150 players and the Gamecocks do not have any other players selected. South Carolina was one of three teams, to include both Clemson and Ohio State, with multiple Top 10 selections.
South Carolina just wrapped up spring practice last week, which included the Garnet & Black Spring Game that was held at Williams-Brice Stadium on Friday night. The players are finishing up the spring semester with exams right around the corner, and much of the team will stay on campus in May before the start of summer workouts.
The Gamecocks will report back for the start of preseason camp on August 1 and practices will start the following day. South Carolina begins the 2025 football season on Sunday, August 31 against Virginia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.
