Francisco Lindor’s Amazin’ Homestand

Francisco Lindor strolled to the plate, the opening notes from The Temptations’ song “My Girl” blaring on the Citi Field speakers. The sounds of clapping and cheering among the Mets faithful in attendance, many of them rising from their seats, got louder by the second. The music stopped just in time for the crowd to sing in unison to the lead into the chorus. “Well, I guess, you’d say…” The fans then sat, but just seconds later, they were back on their feet and roaring as Lindor smashed a lead-off home run.

That describes the scene at Citi Field several times since last May, when Lindor moved to the leadoff spot, and even three times already this season. On this particular Monday night in April, it set the tone for the Mets against the hated Philadelphia Phillies, sending Citi Field into a frenzy reminiscent of last October.

It was just one moment in an electrifying seven-game homestand for Lindor and his squad, one on which the Mets won all seven games – for only the second time in team history – against the Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals.

Lindor hit four home runs in the two series combined, all of them critical. He homered in the bottom of the ninth in a tie game to walk-off the Cardinals and hit two leading-off games on back-to-back nights against the Cards and Phillies. His fourth homer of the homestand also came on Monday night, giving the Mets an insurance run they would turn out to need in the 5-4 win.

But it wasn’t just Lindor’s flair for dramatic homers that made him shine on this homestand. In the seven games combined, Lindor .467 with 14 hits, eight RBI and eight runs scored. He got on base in six of the games and multiple hits in five of them. He was both the catalyst and exclamation point in a homestand that vaulted the Mets to 18-7 and put them five games up on the Phillies.

“He can impact the game in so many different ways,” said Jesse Winker after Lindor’s two-homer game. “He looks amazing at the plate. It’s really fun to watch. It’s like day in and day out, he does something special, so it’s cool to see.”

Lindor’s magnificent homestand put to rest any concerns about another sluggish April. The surge boosted his 2025 stats to a .309/.364/.505 and .869 OPS with five homers, 14 RBI and 18 runs. And it came immediately after one of Lindor’s lowest moments as Met, when he committed a costly error in a loss to the Minnesota Twins – his fourth error in the Mets first 17 games.

“Stay in the moment,” Lindor said last week when asked about his slow starts. “Don’t let what happened yesterday affect what’s going to happen today.”

Lindor was certainly enjoying the moment at Citi Field over the last seven days, and it helped make the Mets unbeatable.
