Kara Bartels had dreams of playing NCAA Division I basketball.
The Zeeland West graduate proved a non-traditional route can work with hard work and has committed to Central Michigan University.
Bartels was an All-American the past two seasons at Lansing Community College.
“The coaches at CMU are all amazing they are so welcoming as well as the team. Coach (Kristin) Haynie has an amazing background in basketball and knows the game and can really help develop me into a better player,” Bartels said.
Bartels averaged 15.1 points per game this season at LCC, shooting 50% from the floor, while also tallying 9.4 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. She scored 1,036 points in her two years with the Stars, helping the program win 51 games in two seasons.
Now she is headed to the Mid-American Conference.
“This opportunity means a lot to me I’m so excited to be challenged and expand my skills,” Bartels said. “I’m thrilled that I found a place that feels like home.”
