ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – It’s been tough to beat Rock Valley baseball recently.
Heading into Sunday’s doubleheader against the John Wood Blazers RVC’s won eight of their last nine and six in a row.
The Golden Eagles dropped game one 13-2 and trailed 4-0 after two innings in game two before they came back to win 15-5 in five innings because of the run rule.
RVC scored 11 runs in the bottom of the third. It started with a two-RBI double to left field from Matthew Thompson. Golden Eagles trailed 4-2.
Blazers eventually changed pitchers but it wouldn’t work. RVC would take their first lead on a hit by pitch.
With the bases loaded later in the inning, Ryan Nagel cleared them with a triple to make it 8-4. John Wood made another pitching change. RVC led 11-5 after three.
After the Blazers made it 11-5 in the top of the fourth, RVC added four more in the bottom of the inning to take a 15-5 lead.
Braydon Cooper took over on the mound to start the fifth. He struck out the final batter he faced to end the game.
RVC returns to the diamond at 2 p.m. for a doubleheader against Olive-Harvey in Chicago.
