ESPN predicts Kentucky’s starting 5 and updates preseason rankings

The Kentucky Wildcats are set to field one of the most dynamic rosters in the country next season, combining proven college scorers, elite freshmen, and tough defensive-minded forwards. According to Jeff Borzello of ESPN, Kentucky is ranked No. 10 in his early Top 25 for the 2025-26 season — and for good reason.

On the perimeter, Mark Pope has significantly bolstered his roster with the additions of transfer guards Jaland Lowe (Pitt), Kam Williams (Tulane), and Denzel Aberdeen (Florida). Five-star freshman Jasper Johnson also joins the fold, giving Kentucky another explosive scorer. The backcourt could be even more dangerous if leading scorer Otega Oweh returns, along with sharpshooter Collin Chandler coming off the bench.

Pope didn’t just focus on offense. He emphasized rebuilding Kentucky’s frontcourt with defense in mind, adding two major pieces: Mouhamed Dioubate from Alabama and Jayden Quaintance from Arizona State. Dioubate brings toughness and rebounding ability, while Quaintance, one of the most exciting young big men in college basketball, adds size, rim protection, and upside — though he is recovering from a torn ACL suffered in late February and could miss time early in the season.

Based on Borzello’s projection, Kentucky’s potential starting lineup would feature:

  • Jaland Lowe (16.8 PPG at Pitt)
  • Jasper Johnson (No. 17 in ESPN 100)
  • Otega Oweh (16.2 PPG)
  • Mouhamed Dioubate (7.2 PPG at Alabama)
  • Jayden Quaintance (9.4 PPG at Arizona State)

With this combination of experience, young talent, and defensive intensity, Kentucky is positioned to make serious noise nationally. If the pieces gel, Mark Pope’s Wildcats could be poised for a deep tournament run — and potentially their first Final Four appearance since 2015.
