Paine College’s baseball team still fights despite Helene-related set backs

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The college baseball postseason is almost here and the Lions down at Paine College had another great regular season — despite still battling the effects of Hurricane Helene.

During the destructive hurricane seven months ago, Paine’s baseball field was torn apart.

The outfield fence line remains in disarray, several parts of the fence itself are missing, and the roofs on each dugout are gone.

Of course he gave Augusta a shoutout: “To be able to raise our name with a performance like that, have Bruce Buffer say, ‘Augusta, Georgia’ regardless of whatever I do for the rest of my career, that in itself is priceless.”

The repairs are yet to be done due to delays in financial aid to the school.

Head Coach Melvin Marshall acknowledges that the physical issues have been tough, but he’s more focused on how well his team performed this year, saying “They gave it their best shot and had a pretty good season.”
