When the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft concluded last Thursday, a total of 19 college football programs had players come off the board. Most of those teams accounted for one pick, but some dominated the draft’s opening night; Ohio State racked up a whopping four selections to pace all schools. It is a colossal accomplishment to produce first-round picks, but it is also a burden in that those players leave sizable holes in their respective lineups.
The Buckeyes not only led all programs in first-round picks, but they also accounted for the most selections across all seven rounds. They have loads of work ahead of them as they work new starters into the mix and seek to repeat as national champions. Ryan Day is far from the only coach with position battles to sort out, though.
Between countless returning players, waves of transfers and the annual batch of true freshmen, college football teams have plenty of avenues by which to fill the vacancies at the top of their depth charts.
