Josh Conerly Jr. claims he was among those who were prank called during the NFL draft.
The former Oregon left tackle, who was drafted by the Washington Commanders with the No. 29 pick, said he received a prank call Thursday night.
“I got one prank call,” Conerly said on Grant and Dany on 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C. on Tuesday. “It was somebody in Colorado acting like they were the Broncos. But besides that I didn’t really get all the multiple ones like everybody else. I can only feel for them because mine wasn’t as bad and as cruel as some of the other ones. Guys that are waiting multiple days and getting four and five calls, it’s insane.”
Though it would have been plausible for Denver to pick Conerly at No. 20, he did not have a formal meeting with the Broncos during the NFL combine or take a top 30 visit to Denver.
The entire exchange was brief for Conerly.
“They’re just like, ‘Is this Josh?’ I was like. ‘Yeah,’” Conerly said. “‘This is so and so from the Broncos,’ and then I was like, ‘Oh my God, what?’ Then they just hung up. I was like, OK.”
Prank calls during this year’s draft drew national attention last week as former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was called by the son of Atlanta Falcons said defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. Tyler Warren, Kyle McCord, Mason Graham and Chase Lundt also reported receiving prank calls, according to the Associated Press.
