This is isn’t your parents’ college football anymore.
Texas is set to spend some money on their team next year and a lot of it.
The budget for the Longhorns’ 2025 roster is “between $35 million and $40 million,” according to a report from the Houston Chronicle. That figure includes the expected $20.5 million revenue-sharing allotment that would result from a House settlement and payment from the Texas One Fund, the school’s official name, image and likeness (NIL) collective.
The Chronicle’s report adds that Arch Manning, the team’s highly-touted quarterback and presumptive No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL draft, is “by far the highest-paid Texas player” and that all his earnings are from deals acquired without help from the school.
That eye-watering sum comes a year after the Ohio State Buckeyes reportedly spent $20 million on its 2024 roster. That team ended up winning a national championship and sending 14 players to the NFL in the 2025 draft, including four first rounders.
