
South Carolina was recently announced the winner of the Palmetto Series champion, taking the all-sports competition by a 7-4 final score. The Gamecocks, now 6-1 all-time in the competition, won the matchup on the football field and the basketball court, while also finding a way to overcome dropping some sports it typically wins.
Here’s a breakdown, along with a few interesting highlights from the academic year.
SOUTH CAROLINA POINTS
Volleyball: Carolina wins 3-0, Sept. 20 – The first competition of the year was the start of a very good Fall semester for the Gamecocks.
Women’s basketball: Carolina wins 77-45, Nov. 20 – South Carolina has now won 14 straight games over Clemson.
Football: Carolina wins 17-14, Nov. 30 – Third-and-16.
Men’s basketball: Carolina wins 91-88 (OT), Dec. 17 – The season did have one bright spot.
Women’s golf: Carolina wins 4-0 – The teams were in the same tournament four times, and the Gamecocks finished ahead in all four.

Most entries into the Lottery’s Carolina vs. Clemson promotion
CLEMSON POINTS
Men’s tennis: Clemson wins 7-0, Feb. 7 – The win by Clemson snaps a streak of nine straight wins by South Carolina.
Women’s tennis: Clemson wins 4-1, Feb. 11 – After Carolina won eight straight, Clemson has won two of the last three.
Baseball: Clemson wins 3-0 – The Tigers dominated, and it wasn’t close.
TIED
Men’s soccer: 2-2, Aug. 30 – A great game at Stone Stadium but Clemson scored in the 67th minute to tie the score. The Tigers had won 10 straight before the draw.
Women’s soccer: 1-1, Sept. 5 – The teams have tied each of the last three seasons.
Women’s cross country: Clemson win on Oct. 5; SC win on Oct. 18 – The Gamecocks picked up a cheap split as Clemson won in lopsided fashion in the first meet, then ran their backups the second time the teams were in the same competiton.
Softball: Each team won one game
The SC Education Lottery is now the sponsor of the Palmetto Series. With the Lottery’s sponsorship of the Palmetto Series, a few new points are up for grabs. A point will be awarded to the school with the most current LIFE scholarship recipients and another point for the most current Palmetto Fellows scholarship recipients. And, fans will have a say when they enter their $5 Carolina Jackpot and Clemson Jackpot scratch-offs in the Rival Play Second-Chance Promotion, the school’s ticket with the most entries earns a point.
