College football’s 15 greatest programs by all-time win percentage

Winning is expected as a college football blue-blood program. And when it doesn’t happen at the highest level, changes are often made. The nation’s most successful programs by all-time winning percentage all share one common factor: When legendary coaches mesh with elite talent, greatness happens. The programs among the top 15 in history have combined to dominate the sport for decades, mostly driven by recruiting strongholds and ample resources.

Heading into the 2025 season, we’ve taken note of the updated win-loss records among the country’s very best college football programs. Total wins do not vault teams to the top of the rankings since they have all played a different of number of games. Win percentage is calculated by dividing a team’s number of total wins, including bowl and playoff games, by their total number of games. Ties count as half-wins and half-losses by the NCAA. Six of the 15 teams in these all-time rankings were participants in last season’s College Football Playoff.

A few of the programs are in the midst of unrivaled success, like Georgia. Meanwhile, others are historic winners trying to emerge from the ranks of mediocrity in recent years with new staffs and leadership.
