Lipscomb adds Sfera as Assistant Basketball Coach

Lipscomb Men’s Basketball head coach Kevin Carroll announced the addition of Vic Sfera to the Men’s Basketball staff on Thursday. Sfera will serve as Assistant Coach.

“Vic is the perfect fit for Lipscomb. His strong faith, ability to connect with everyone around him and keen understanding of how to effectively navigate the constantly-changing landscape of college basketball makes him a fantastic addition to our coaching staff,” said Carroll.

Sfera comes to Lipscomb after most recently serving as an assistant coach on the Charlotte Men’s Basketball coaching staff for seven seasons. While with Charlotte, Sfera helped guide the 49ers to new heights with its first top-three league finish since 2006 as the squad tied a pair of program records with 13 conference victories and 13 wins at Halton Arena during the 2024-25 season. Last season, Charlotte also notched its first win over a ranked opponent at home since 2010 and the first overall since 2013.

“I’ve known Vic for almost 20 years and have watched him become one of the most respected and impactful coaches in the country. His strong sense of purpose aligns perfectly with our program and Lipscomb University. We couldn’t be more excited to have him, Rachel, Lucas and Clay join our Bison family!” added Carroll.

Sfera was integral in the recruitment and developments of transfer forward Igor Milicic Jr. and Lu’Cye Patterson who joined Charlotte prior to the 22-23 season. With these key contributors, Sfera helped lead the 49ers to the program’s first-ever postseason tournament title with the College Basketball Invitational in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Prior to joining the Charlotte coaching staff, Sfera spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Liberty University. During this time, the Flames won 43 games, reached a Big South Conference Tournament Championship game and made it to at least the quarterfinals of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament each season.

Before his stop at Liberty, Sfera spent four seasons on the staff at University of Virginia, spending two seasons as technology assistant and two seasons as the director of scouting/recruiting. While with the Cavaliers, the squad made three NCAA Tournament appearances, one trip to the Elite Eight and won an ACC Regular Season Championship. He also spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Northern Arizona. During his senior season at University of Memphis, he served as head team manager during the 2009-2010 season under head coach Josh Pastner.

In addition to collegiate coaching experience, Sfera was a member of the technical staff for the U16 Romanian National Team and worked with the squad during the 2016 FIBA European Championships. In this role, he assisted with scouting, practice planning and skill development.

As a player, Sfera played collegiately at MiraCosta College in Oceanside, California after prepping at Capistrano Valley Christian School.

Sfera earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in behavioral sciences and sport studies in 2010. He earned his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University in 2013.

Sfera and his wife Rachel have two children, Lucas and Clay.
