Bossier Parish Community College Press Release
In a landmark achievement, Bossier Parish Community College has clinched the Region 14 North title, marking the program’s first conference championship in 25 years and its inaugural Region 14 title.
The Cavaliers sealed the historic victory by sweeping a doubleheader against Angelina, finishing the regular season with an impressive 34-16 overall record and 19-11 in conference play.
Under the leadership of head coach Bobby Gilliam, BPCC has transformed into a regional powerhouse.
This title secures the Cavaliers’ fifth playoff appearance in eight years, a stark contrast to the program’s mere handful of postseason births in the previous two decades.
Gilliam’s tenure has revitalized the team, with this championship serving as a testament to his strategic vision and the team’s relentless drive.
Offensive Firepower Fuels Success
BPCC’s offense has been a juggernaut, boasting a team batting average of .321, an on-base percentage of .421, and an OPS of .957. The Cavs hit 61 homeruns during the regular season and rank in the top of every offensive category in the conference.
The Cavaliers’ lineup features a slew of standout performers who have consistently delivered at the plate:
Parker Gwynn (2B) hit .364, smashing 14 doubles and 10 home runs, anchoring the infield with his dynamic bat.
Jacob Gillis (1B) has 396 average, a .536 on-base percentage, and four home runs, showcasing elite plate discipline walking 27 times to only 13 strikeouts
Hayden Stringfellow (3B) batted .301, driving in 46 RBIs with nine home runs, providing clutch production.
DJ Pinkerton (CF) paced the team with 47 RBIs, hitting .345 with 10 doubles and 11 home runs, a force in the heart of the order.
Dylan Biddick (RF) posted a scorching .409 average, ripping 19 doubles, nine home runs, and 43 RBIs, proving to be a nightmare for opposing pitchers.
Tyrus Hall (SS) hit .300, contributing 12 doubles, six home runs, and swiping 19 bases, adding speed and versatility.
This offensive depth and balance have overwhelmed opponents, setting the stage for a formidable postseason run.
Pitching Prowess Anchors the Staff
On the mound, BPCC’s pitching staff has been equally dominant, led by a trio of reliable arms and a lights-out closer:
Garret Blanchard dazzled with a 1.95 ERA over 61 innings, posting a 5-1 record while holding opponents to a .210 batting average.
Ben McKinnon led the team with 63 innings pitched, compiling a 6-2 record, a 3.82 ERA, and 67 strikeouts.
Jake Skelly provided consistency out of the bullpen, throwing 26 innings with a 3.71 ERA, a 2-0 record, and one save.
Zander Bretza locked down games as the closer, pitching 31 innings, striking out 45, and earning five saves with a 4-1 record.
This combination of stellar starting pitching and a reliable bullpen has kept BPCC competitive in tight contests, paving the way for their championship run.
Hosting the Regional Tournament
As Region 14 North champions, BPCC earns the right to host the four-team regional tournament on its campus. The postseason action kicks off Thursday, May 8, with the Cavaliers facing Alvin Community College at 1 p.m., followed by Tyler Junior College taking on San Jacinto College at 5 p.m. Hosting provides BPCC with a home-field advantage, where their passionate fans and familiar surroundings could prove pivotal.
A Milestone for BPCC
This historic title is more than a trophy—it’s a statement. BPCC has emerged as a force in Region 14, blending a high-octane offense with a stout pitching staff under Gilliam’s steady guidance. As the Cavaliers prepare for the regional tournament, they carry the momentum of a 34-win season and the pride of rewriting their program’s history. With their eyes set on a deep postseason run, BPCC is poised to make noise on the national stage.
