Jarren Duran has a one-of-a-kind motor for the Boston Red Sox.
His high-speed, aggressive play-style makes Duran the player he is, but the Red Sox know that it takes a physical toll on the All-Star. Duran only missed two games last season and those came from his two-game suspension.
Duran already got some rest in April and his manager will take care of him in the coming weeks as he plays through the bumps and bruises of the weekend series with the Minnesota Twins.
“I don’t ask, but he knows we’re going to pick and choose certain days,” Alex Cora told reporters Sunday, per NESN video. “I think the schedule is about to get easier for us. We’ve got the off-day tomorrow. Obviously, all the Thursdays we get the next two months. For how much I want him to get rest, the schedule is going to dictate that. He’s in a good spot.”
Duran hit .280 to start the season and leads the league in at-bats, plate appearances and triples. The sparkplug of the Red Sox offense seems to be finding his rhythm again, which becomes even more important after Triston Casas’ season-ending injury.

“We love the way he plays,” Cora added.
