CANANDAIGUA — Finger Lakes Community College baseball wrapped up the regular season with a dominant doubleheader sweep of Jamestown Community College, notching 9-0 and 2-0 shutouts at home on Sunday afternoon.
Heading into the postseason, the Lakers (34-16, 20-6) have won eight in a row and clinched the No. 2 seed in the NJCAA Region III West. They will host a best-of-three sub-regional series on Saturday, May 10.
In Sunday’s opener, Caleb Wilson got the start on the bump and was in command from the start, firing a complete-game two-hit shutout with six strikeouts and no walks to earn his sixth win of the season.
The Lakers broke things open in the fourth with a six-run frame. Palmyra-Macedon graduate Christian Morrison drew a bases-loaded walk to start the scoring. Then, Brody Froman lined a two-run single to right center to make it 4-0. Two batters later, Markus Brehm delivered a two-run single of his own, extending the lead to six before Trey Buchholz drove in another on a groundout to cap the outburst.
Froman finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and a run scored, while Brehm went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a stolen base. Justin Angora and Morrison also picked up RBIs as the Lakers combined eight hits with eight walks to put the game out of reach.
Game two featured strong pitching once again. Nathan Power of Victor threw four shutout innings with five strikeouts and two hits allowed to pick up his seventh win. Red Jacket alum Aiden Reed and Pal-Mac grad Ian Goodness closed it out, with Goodness earning his second save of the year.
