WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – The first pick in the 2027 NFL draft is the nation’s capital. The NFL Draft was watched by millions JUST two weeks ago and will take place in 2 years time in Washington, DC.
The NFL Draft has become an increasingly popular event in recent years. The 3-day player draft has drawn nation-wide attention and publicity.
President Donald Trump made the announcement in the Oval Office. He acknowledged that the NFL Draft has become a major cultural event in recent years.
“The draft is a celebration of one of our country’s most cherished cultural institutions, and the annual highlights for football fans everywhere. Everyone in the world is going to be watching.”
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was on hand for the announcement. He predicted the event will draw fans to DC from all across the country.
“The draft has really become, one of the great entertainment and sports events. Just a week ago in Green Bay, we had over 600,000 people attend. The year before in Detroit, we had close to 800,000.We believe it will be well over a million when we come here to DC in 2027.”
The 2026 NFL draft will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Then, in 2027, the NFL intends to hold the event on the National Mall. That’s the big open space stretching from the Capitol to the Lincoln memorial, lined by the Smithsonian museums.
