William Hardrick, an Alabama native who played football at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee, died in an automobile accident in Limestone County on Tuesday night.
Hardrick’s death was confirmed Wednesday by the Austin Peay athletic department. According to a report by Huntsville TV station WAFF, the 22-year-old Hardrick was driving home to Adamsville from Tennessee on I-65, when his vehicle left the road and flipped several times near Piney Chapel Road. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hardrick, a 2021 Minor High School graduate, spent two seasons each at Mississippi State and Miami of Ohio, before transferring to Austin Peay. A senior defensive back, he joined the Governors’ football program this past spring after totaling 32 tackles and five pass breakups in 19 career games at his two previous college stops.
“William Hardrick was an exceptional young man, and our team is heartbroken by his loss,” Austin Peay football coach Jeff Faris said in a statement. “He made everyone around him better and has made a real impact both on and off the field. We lift up the Hardrick family in prayer as we grieve this tragic loss with them.”
Miami’s football program also made note of Hardrick’s passing, as did the ASUN Conference and Austin Peay assistants Antonio Bradford and Shane Tucker:
