College football transfer portal: Georgia, LSU newcomers among ex-Group of Five stars bound for 2025 success

The transfer portal ravaged the Group of Five this offseason, as it has done to an increasing extent throughout its existence. The talent gap between the Group of Five and Power Four gets wider by the year, in part because the best players in the smaller conferences move up to premier programs on the heels of strong seasons. College Football Playoff contenders and teams further down the pecking order alike serve as tantalizing destinations as standouts seek to capitalize with larger NIL packages and more exposure.

247Sports’ Chris Hummer reported after the winter transfer portal window that more than half of the all-conference players in last year’s Group of Five entered the transfer portal, and 67 of those 73 landed at power conference programs. Those numbers only rose in the spring window.

The raiding of the Group of Five this offseason is essentially complete, and it is now abundantly clear which players will hold major roles on their new teams.
