College baseball: San Jacinto rallies past BPCC on Day 2 of Region 14 North Tournament

The No. 1 seed Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers fell to No. 2 San Jacinto 6-5 Friday on the second day of the Region 14 North Tournament at BPCC.

BPCC (35-17) will play Tyler Junior College (35-22) in an elimination game Saturday at 1 p.m. Tyler eliminated Alvin Community College 7-6 earlier Friday.

The winner will face San Jacinto (38-15) at 5. If San Jacinto wins, the Ravens win and move on to the Super Regional.

If BPCC defeats Tyler, the Cavs would have to defeat San Jacinto Saturday and again Sunday to advance.

BPCC led Friday’s game 5-3 after six innings. San Jacinto tied it with two runs in the top of the seventh. The Ravens took advantage of two walks, a single, a groundout and a wild pitch.

San Jacinto put two runners on with two outs in the eighth but Zander Bretza got a strikeout and the game remained tied.

The Cavs went down in order in the bottom of the inning.

Roman Trinidad doubled with one out in the top of the ninth. After Landon Hunt walked, Eddie Castillo bunted and reached on an error. Trinidad scored what proved to be the winning run.

Jarrette Bonet set the Cavs down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

BPCC outhit San Jacinto 10-8, but the Ravens drew 14 walks.

Parker Gwyn and Gianluca Montanaro both went 2-for-4. Dylan Biddick went 2-for-4 with a double.

Hayden Stringfellow hit a two-run home run in the first. Andy Roman had a double.

San Jacinto’s Bonet didn’t give up a hit or walk and struck out three in the final three innings.
