COLLEGE BASEBALL: OC advances past Cisco College in NJCAA Region V District Tournament

The Odessa College baseball team advanced to the second round of the NJCAA Region V District Tournament by finishing off Cisco College in a 6-2 win Saturday in Game 3 at Wrangler Ballpark.

Playing in the best-of-three series, Odessa College took control in the fourth inning, scoring four runs before adding two more in the sixth to take a 6-0 advantage as Cisco College couldn’t get much going.

Odessa College finished with 11 hits and one error while Cisco College had three hits and two errors.

OC pitcher Paxton Samuelson took the victory on the mound as he put in 7.2 innings of work, finishing with four strikeouts and giving up two hits.

Odessa College won the opening game of the series 8-4 on Thursday before losing 10-3 in Game 2 on Friday.

The Wranglers (40-15) will now host the second round of the NJCAA Region 5 District Tournament, consisting of the four remaining teams in the region, which will take place May 15-17 at Wrangler Ballpark.

The winner of next week’s tournament (which will be a double-elimination format) will clinch a berth in the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.

Weatherford College, McLennan Community College and New Mexico Junior College have also advanced to the second round and will join Odessa College in next week’s tournament.
